Enteric Neurobiology

Enteric Neurobiology
In this course, students will be introduced to the structure and function of the enteric nervous system (ENS), an autonomous nervous system that controls gastrointestinal function. Topics will include a study of ENS function in health and disease including enteric neurons, glia, and immune cells, the gut-brain axis, and the role of the microbiota. Learning methods will include didactic lectures, readings from published books and primary literature, group presentations, and in-class assignments.
