Climate and Society

In a rapidly changing world, where climate is forcing society to interact with the environment in new ways and disrupting nearly all facets of society (e.g. security, education, health, economies), solutions that lead to an equitable and just future are emerging. Learning to navigate is multifaceted requiring transdisciplinary thinking and approaches. To build this knowledge, we will draw from student experiences within different disciplines of the Study Away At Monterey program, requiring students to be active participants in the course. Students will bring their experiences and perspectives by designing discussions around topics of interest and/or related to their field of study. Strategic readings and invited experts from MIIS community and broader Monterey area will support and guide these discussions. To facilitate the course learning objectives, students will participate in community events and create reflections of these experiences, lead in-class discussions, and provide peer-feedback. This course aims to empower students to think more broadly about the climate crisis, and provide the space to reflect on and develop their perspectives to become thought leaders.
