Policy Analysis

This 1-unit course introduces students to the fundamentals of policy analysis, particularly in the context of “wicked problems” (using Rittel’s definition of this term) and social justice. Students will gain competencies related to each policy process stage including (but not limited to) agenda setting, research, formulation of policy options, selection of the preferred alternative, implementation, and evaluation. Students will also develop basic policy analysis skills, including problem structuring and stakeholder identification. Several tools will be introduced to support the development of these skills. Teams will select a “wicked problem” of interest that will serve as the context in which tools and skills are applied.
