Economic Prosperity in the Global Economy
The forces of globalization have powerful and controversial effects today, but this phenomenon has deep historical roots. At the center of the globalization debate is whether prosperity is delivered to developing countries. In this course we will study the transformation to the global economy by exploring commodity, labor, and capital markets from a historical perspective. We will analyze the links among the economic dimensions of globalization, development, and growth. Our objective will be to examine the characteristics and evolution of globalization and its impact on overall growth, education, health, inequality, and poverty. (ECON 0240 or ECON 0250 or ECON 0340) 3 hrs. sem.
