British Crime Drama
British Crime Drama
British Crime Drama centers on a quintessential television genre, which has comfortably crossed national and cultural borders. We will explore the transformations that occur when crime fiction moves from the television industry to a streaming apparatus. The course explores the enduring appeal of this genre, how the whodunnit narrative is different in a British setting, and identify the aesthetic devices unique to British shows. Simultaneously, we will explore how individual narratives engage with questions of gender, race, class and national identity.
