Methane, Alternative Fuel

Methane as an Alternative Fuel for Agricultural and Transportation Applications
In this hands-on course, students will 1) modify a Ford 8N tractor to operate on methane as an alternative fuel, 2) visit local farms and businesses that produce methane from biomass and also use compressed natural gas as a transportation fuel, 3) conduct dynamometer measurements on the modified Ford 8N tractor to measure horsepower, and 4) create action plans that employ methane successfully as an alternative fuel for agricultural and transportation applications. Faculty and experts from the business community will interact with the class to develop projects that will be summarized in final reports and oral presentations.
