Methodological Advances in Spanish Language Teaching

This course seeks to provide an in-depth analysis of present and future methodological advances in the teaching of Spanish as a L2 drawing upon an ecological understanding of L2 teaching as an activity in contact with the environment and influenced by social, educational, cultural, economic, and political conditions. Specifically, the course examines methodological advances for Spanish as a L2 in relation to the notions of methodology and post-methodology, second language acquisition (SLA) theories, interculturality and transculturality, multiliteracies and multimodalities, language learning beyond the classroom, teacher cognition and socialization, classroom dynamics and management, sociopolitical and institutional conditions, and professional development. The course does not adhere to any specific theoretical or curricular framework for L2 learning and/or teaching. Based on an interdisciplinary approach to L2 teaching, the course aims to help practitioners achieve a successful understanding of the complexities and nuances of learning and teaching Spanish a L2 in diverse academic, geographic, and sociocultural contexts.
