The History of Pre-Modern Japan
A study of the cultural, literary, and institutional history of Japan from the earliest times through the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate. Major themes include: the evolution of Japanese aesthetics, warrior ethics, adaptation and "Japanification" of Chinese institutions, imperial legitimacy, and other concepts and processes that set Japan apart from other nations.
