Developing Authentic Materials
Developing Authentic Materials for Teaching Hebrew as a Second Language
Grounded in Communicative Language Theories and in orientations of culture and language integration in second language instruction, this course equips students with the ability to select culturally relevant materials to be included in second language lessons and units. Students first learn about the benefits of the use of authentic materials in the second language context, and the ability to integrate such materials across age and proficiency levels. Students then explore how to search and scan for appropriate authentic materials, as well as how to best harness their use in order to support the development of reading, writing, listening, and speaking, in second language classes.
