The Mediterranean: Current Crises and Future Scenarios
The course aims to deepen the complex cultural and political reality of the Mediterranean, cradle of great civilizations and the three monotheistic religions, a sea that unites and also separates Europe and the Arab-Islamic world. The objective is to help students acquire a perspective free from relativism and distinct from widespread opinion regarding Mediterranean reality. In particular, some events and phenomena that have determined recent history and contemporary reality will be dealt with the political and cultural conflicts between Europe and the Arab-Islamic world, al-Qaeda, Isis, jihadism, terrorism, immigration and the difficulties of integration, with particular attention to Italian and French cases. At the end of the course students will propose and discuss solutions to the problems presented.
