Art of Ensemble Singing
In this course students will develop fundamental musicianship skills applicable to performance of vocal music in chamber ensembles. We will study counterpoint, harmony, texture, intonation, temperament, and expression. Daily work will include practicing and writing pedagogical exercises based on repertoire studied, understanding and developing fundamental skills, and performing repertoire. Students will study music from antiquity to the present to develop analytical skills that transfer immediately to performance. Our repertoire will include ensemble vocal music, however students interested in playing an instrument (strings and winds especially) should contact the professor and may join the class with approval. This course counts as a performance elective or as an elective for courses at the 0200-level and above.
