Education in Action: Anti-Racism in Praxis

Racism is experienced and expressed but not necessarily easily identifiable in everyday life if you are

not the one suffering from discrimination and marginalization. We need to study the system of

racism in order to understand and empathize with the lived experiences of those who are

minoritized. If experiencing privileges from the system, one needs to go further than empathizing;

we need to embark on the journey of being anti-racist. What is anti-racism and what role does it play

in dismantling systemic racism in institutions? What does the journey of being an anti-racist ally

require of us as individualas? Intersectionality, we will argue, holds the key to the anti-racism

approach we adopt. This course will get students to understand anti-racism in theory and practice

and apply it to their life in higher education institutions, in their careers, and in society.
