Intro to Gen & Hebrew Ling.
The first half of this course is composed of discussions on basic principles, structures, and definitions of language, and approaches in general (theoretical) linguistics. The second half, shifting the focus to Hebrew linguistics, surveys the history of the language, the evolution of introspection on Hebrew (religious, philological, prescriptive, and descriptive), as well as various aspects and viewpoints on Semitic phenomena and Hebrew-specific phenomena, first- and second-language acquisition and their pedagogy, and standards and standardization versus real usage.
