Ethnog in Japn Lang & Society
In this course, students will develop a basic understanding of ethnography and apply its principles and methodologies to language and cultural learning. Students will read and discuss some classic and contemporary ethnographies of Japan to understand how ethnographers examine and analyze social issues. The students will also learn how to use ethnography to become autonomous language learners. Those who wish to become language teachers will learn how they can use ethnography to help their students maximize their linguistic and cultural gains during a short study tour.
