This course provides an introduction to how languages work. It aims to familiarise students with the systems of different languages and help them analyse languages at the levels of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics (sociolinguistic aspects) and discourse. Its goal is increasing students' awareness of the function of languages and understanding of the implications for teaching and learning them.
