Russian Idiomatic Syntax
In the teaching of the Russian language, much attention is given to fixed expressions, proverbs, and sayings. Significantly less attention is given to syntactic phraseology, or patterns, which can be filled with diverse lexical material, such as Гулять так гулять, Чем не подарок, Дурак дураком, and many others. These constructions are difficult to understand and translate into other languages. In this course, the students will get to know several dozen constructions and learn to identify and understand them in context. Mastering these constructions will improve language skills and help with the analysis of authentic texts. Counts as a course in language and linguistics.
