Senior Seminar
Approaches to Music Research
In this course we will explore compositional, ethnomusicological, historical, performative, and theoretical approaches to music inquiry. Using a seminar format that integrates discussions with ethnography, film screenings, lectures, library research, oral presentations, performances, readings, and writing, we will learn various procedures of uncovering and disseminating fresh musical knowledge. The seminar will culminate in projects that advance methodologies of our senior work. All music majors are required to take this course in the fall of their senior year. 3 hrs. lect./disc.
