Migration and Food Systems

Migration and Food Systems
In this course we will use sociological perspectives to analyze interrelationships between transnational migration and food systems. We will examine both historical and contemporary dynamics of migration in Vermont and other parts of the United States. We will explore theoretical and empirical problems, using literature from different disciplines (e.g., sociology, anthropology, food and environmental studies, and other interrelated disciplines). Classes will include lectures and discussions based on shared readings. By critically investigating a final case study, students will be able to learn and explore mechanisms for community inclusion and exclusion in relation to immigration, food, and agriculture. 3 hrs. lect./disc.
