The aim of this course is to introduce students to these processes, particularly as they occur in the classroom. Topics covered include theories and models of L2 acquisition (behaviorism, universal grammar, interactionism, connectionism and other cognitive models), bilingualism and its effects on cognitive development, L2 developmental stages and the characteristics of learner interlanguage, native-language influence, social, psychological and affective factors influencing L2 acquisition and language learning strategies.
