Grammar of Colloquial Spanish
Although students in this course already have an advanced level of standard Spanish used in the formal register, they need to know colloquial uses which will make them closer to the competence of native speakers in the communicative processes of everyday life. This course has two objectives: 1) to make students able to know explicitly the pragmatic and grammatical resources of oral discourse and 2) to make them able to use them automatically. In order to achieve this goal, we will concentrate on the uses of morphological and syntactic elements which offer expressive possibilities to the communicative intentions of the Spanish speaking person. We will include colloquial "panhispanic" features, although we will refer to some relevant features of some dialects both of America and Spain. As a methodology we will combine the study of the required text and other material provided by the teacher, with practice based on the analysis of real conversations recorded in video.
