Intl Law for Policy Makers

This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to understand how principles of Public International Law apply to selected current issues in the international arena and how the resolution of those issues will impact international policy and decision-making. Accordingly, students completing this class should be able to:

(1) articulate the basic differences between international law and domestic law,

(2) demonstrate an understanding of fundamental international law principles and how to apply them to a real world scenario taken from current events,

(3) properly analyze current issues in international law through consideration of the arguments supporting opposite sides of those issues,

(4) demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the inherent difficulties in enforcing international law,

(5) demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of how principles and issues of Public International Law affect and influence international policy decisions.
