Technology-Enhanced Language Learning and Teaching: Theory and Practice
This course explores the challenges that developments in communication and digital practices pose to language and culture education. Developing multilingual literacy skills for digital communication involves new learning needs and methods. It examines how digital resources and tools can either facilitate or constrain the development of communicative competence components. The course also explores how digital resources have modified traditional language teaching methods and addresses new needs created by multilingual practices on digital networks. The sessions aim to combine theoretical reflection with practical considerations, using case studies and open questions. Students will be encouraged to design pedagogical responses based on readings of scientific articles. The course includes a section dedicated to designing pedagogical scenarios incorporating digital elements.
Upon completion, students will be able to discuss the challenges of developing and using digital tools for language and culture education, conceptualize digital humanities and digital pedagogy beyond deterministic/optimistic dichotomies, identify affordances and constraints of digital tools for languages teaching and learning, and design pedagogical scenarios for language courses.
