Solar Decathlon 2011: Construction Administration, Competition & Documentation
The Department of Energy (DOE) and National Research Energy Laboratory (NREL) sponsored Solar Decathlon is a competition to design and construct a solar-powered house. Middlebury College was recently selected to participate in the 2011 challenge. The objective of this course is to provide support and design direction during the construction process. Students will review design documents and actual construction for accuracy and quality control. Students will also adjust the design documents to reflect actual construction methods and means. Another component of this course will be the strategy and planning for the 10 Solar Decathlon contests. Finally, the students of this course will help organize and execute send-off and return celebrations for the house on campus. Students registered for this course will likely travel to DC for the competition. (Approval required; please contact Andrea Murray prior to registration).
