Youth Protest in Russia in 21C
Politics, Culture, Ecology: Youth Protest in Russia of the 21st Century
This course presents the history and analysis of youth movements and political activism in post-Soviet Russia, from the chaotic nineties and relatively calm noughties to the turbulent tens and tragic twenties. We will consider environmental and anti-corruption demonstrations, the volunteer movement and cultural actionism, feminist and anti-war movements in the capitals and provinces. The course focuses not so much on the political mainstream as on youth activism and its social and cultural aspects. Our study of youth protest will be illustrated by documentaries and music videos.
