Independence in Latin America
Independence in Latin America: Republicanism, Revolutions, and the Emergence of New Nations
The aim of this course is to analyze the political culture that forms the basis of the independence process in Latin America. We will be reading memoirs, diaries, the correspondence between “the founders”, and political texts as well as historical writings. Considering the fact that the revolutions in Latin America were not isolated events, but rather an integral part of a transnational movement that engulfed America and Europe at the end of the 18th-century that was known as the Atlantic Revolutions.
