Culture and Revolution in Latin America.
Study and discussion of the main political ideas, art, music, and literature in relation to the Latin American social revolutions of the 20th century. Using a cultural studies framework, this course looks at the transformation of cultural politics, national identities, and societies in the reconstruction years after armed revolution. The main focus is on Mexico and Nicaragua with references to Cuba, El Salvador and the Zapatista uprising of 1994. The artefacts to study and analyze include photos, films, popular music, mural painting, novels and poetry.
