Civic Engmt Women in Africa
Civic Engagement of Women and Girls in Africa
In Africa, women’s civic engagement remains one of the challenges faced by the state and civil society organizations. Some non-governmental organizations and state structures have made the advancement of women their main concern. Despite this effervescence within civil society and the State, women are not considered as major actors in the framework of security actions and policies.
This course aims to answer the following questions: How have women worked for their integration into the political field since the period of the struggle for independence until today? What are the tools mobilized by these actresses both from a discursive and material point of view to feminize these male institutions? How do the registers mobilized at the discursive, narrative and actantial levels contribute to the emergence of feminine spaces within the political and security forces? What are the opportunities available to them both from a legal and political point of view?
Required Text:
Marthe MOUMIE, Victime du colonialisme français : Mon mari Félix Moumié , Editions Duboiris, 2006, ISBN: 2952231524
Aoua KEITA, Femmes d'Afrique: La vie d'Aoua Kéita racontée par elle-même, Editions Présence Africaine, . 2014, ISBN: 978-2708708792
