Sociopragmatics & Dialogue
Sociopragmatics and Dialogue Analysis
This course aims to explore the French language, not as a linguistic system but from its uses in social
context. The aim will be to introduce students to the sociopragmatic approach and dialogue analysis. We
will be interested in the acts that we carry out by speaking and we will examine the diversity of
discourses that we produce in various situations (discourse genres). We will focus in particular on the
situations of dialogue. We will work with examples of asymmetrical dialogues (with children in situations
of language acquisition, intercultural dialogues, dialogue in situations of second language acquisition),
and examine how meaning and interpersonal relationships are constructed in interaction.
