Women in Colonial Spanish America: Perspectives from Gender and Visual Anthropology
Using the theoretical tools provided by gender studies and drawing on visual anthropology, the course delves into the graphic representation (drawings, prints, photographs) and the discourses constructed by the imaginaries about women in Spanish America during the colonial period and its projection to the present. The course presents how the colonial space became a space of violence and erotic subjugation, impacting different women from different ethno-cultural groups differently. (1 unit)
