Russian Theater
The Russian Theater
Russian theater has always been closely tied with Russian society. Consequently, studying the masterpieces of Russian drama is the best way to understand the social and cultural codes of Russia, including post-Soviet Russia, since theater continues to play a huge role in contemporary Russian life. Students will become acquainted with the more representative texts of Griboedov (Woe from Wit), Pushkin (Boris Godunov), Gogol (The Marriage, The Government Inspector), Ostrovsky (The Storm), Tolstoy (The Living Corpse), and Chekhov (Three Sisters, The Cherry Orchard).
