Subjunctive in Spanish: What to know about it and how to teach it/
Three-week course, second session

In this course, we will study theory and teaching strategies for the use and value of the subjunctive in Spanish, with special focus on the interaction between Syntax and Semantics. The goal is for students enrolled in this course will be able to distinguish the uses and values of the subjunctive in Spanish, with special focus on:
• Indicative vs. Subjunctive in Spanish
• Subjunctive and syntax
• Subjunctive and pragmatics
Taking into account students’ professional context as teachers of SFL, activities and strategies will be proposed and discussed to teach subjunctive at various levels. (.5 unit)
