20C Mexican Women Writers

Twentieth Century Mexican Women Writers

"Another way to be human and free ..." is a line from the great Rosario Castellanos about the situation of women in the 20th-century Mexico. Along with it, a large group of writers assumed their literary vocation and looked from there to build new voices: Nellie Campobello, Ines Arredondo, Elena Garro, Josefina Vicens, Elena Poniatowska, Margo Glantz, and Castellanos herself, among others. With their literary works, they altered and gave new perspectives to Mexican literature. In this course we will read and discuss some of their most significant pages. (1 unit)
