Discourse Analysis in Spanish

Three week course, second session

1. Description: Study of the Spanish language in use and the relations between speaker-listener through the types of oral and written texts. Analysis of the construction process of the discourse in Spanish: coherence and cohesion procedures, with special focus on discourse markers.
2 Objectives: Students enrolled in this course will be able to analyze how to build communication in Spanish and how the language differs depending on the type of text and register: colloquial conversation, written or oral argumentation, academic presentation, etc. These goals should be achieved with the acquisition of a number of skills and abilities that should include the following aspects:
Knowledge of the units of language in use (communicative units)
Identification and analysis of the types of text in oral and written Spanish
Analysis of the discourse cohesion procedures
Classification and use of discourse markers
