ITAL 6503

Written and Spoken Italian

In this course, students will have the opportunity to develop and deepen their oral and written skills at an advanced level, focusing on more specifically grammatical and stylistic aspects. Particular attention will be given to syntax in order to strengthen the peculiarities of the Italian language, with special attention to the structure of sentences and their clauses. Through the analysis of different linguistic fields, students will achieve an understanding of the Italian language in its various uses. Additionally, texts by authors of Italian literature will be read and analyzed to consciously examine grammatical and thematic-stylistic structures. The lessons will also include written compositions by the students, who will practice textual analysis and writing. The goal of the course is to provide students with the syntactic and stylistic tools to learn to “think in Italian” in writing and oral expression, also drawing from the great examples of our literature.
