This is course is designed to provide students with an overview about the development in the Middle East in the light of Arab Spring and the recent changes in contemporary Arab society. It will focus on several developmental issues such as Arab human development, economic growth, environmental challenges, democracy and role of civil society organizations. The influence of globalization on national identity and cultural heritage and the impact of regional conflicts on the development in this region is an essential component of the course. The course is conducted entirely in Arabic using authentic materials from Arabic books, periodicals, newspapers, magazines, social media, and Satellite TV stations. The class will meet twice a week.
