Public Art in Italy & the World - THREE WEEKS ONLY
NOTE: This course is 3 weeks (July 8 to 26) and MUST be taken with the Petrarch course (July 29 to August 16)
The relationship between urban space, communities, and Public Art will be explored through an anthropological lens, with particular attention to projects related to new media, including Extended Reality, the Metaverse, and Artificial Intelligence. The study program includes the analysis of Public Art projects in Italy and around the world, based on three fundamental concepts: Art in the public interest, Art in public space, and Art as public space. From the LAP Public Art Laboratory to the Art Stations of Naples in Italy, from the Institute for Public Art in Shanghai, China, to the Public Art Fund in New York, and the Cité Mémoire project in Montreal and Charlevoix, through the works of individual artists and groups such as Suzanne Lacy, Jenny Holzer, fuse*, Studio Azzurro, JR, urbanscreen.com, MP Studio, Krzysztof Wodiczko, Iaconesi Persico, and Doug Aitken.
