Word Formation

The course is devoted to the most important source of the contemporary Russian language: word formation. Students will study the theoretical foundations of word formation and explore the dynamics of word formation in contemporary Russian, get acquainted with the features of the word formation game, and analyze the stylistic functions of word formation models in the media, colloquial speech, fiction, and scientific literature. The learning goals of the course include the development and active use of word-building models in conversational practice, the development of language guessing skills when reading modern texts of various genres, and the development and expansion of creative language abilities when creating one’s own texts. Counts as a course in language and linguistics.
