Argentina's Internat'l Relatio
Recent History in Argentina and its International Relations *
*Three-week course, first session
Argentina and the Great Powers in the 21st-century - One of the most common questions about Argentina is why the country has failed to develop as a great power, considering the resources it has. Characterized by a mediocre political leadership and with strong internal political divisions, the last sixty years in Argentina were about the continuing waste of vast resources, the political violence, and the limits to create a long-term agreement between the Peronists and the other political forces to achieve the desired development, and the poverty reduction that people demand. Caught up in divisive arguments, corruption, and weak political institutions, the Argentinean society confronts a new government with high uncertainties about the economic and political measures taken by them and the possible impact. Trying to return to more traditional alliances with western countries, the 21st-century remains an open question for Argentina. (.5 unit)
