Literature & Violence in L.A.

THIS COURSE IS TAUGHT IN BUENOS AIRES
*Literature and Violence in Latin America*

Violence is not a new occurence in Latin America. Our continent is born with the wounds of violence over its territory. This foundational scar has given it a complex identity, not only in the realm of historical reality but also within different cultural aspects during its long and difficult history. With these concepts as core of this course, we will read some contemporary writers whose work is shaped by an aesthetic elaboration of violence, its impact and aftermath. We are going to read and discuss authors such as Evelio Rosero, Héctor Abad Faciolince, Julián Herbert, Sara Uribe, Yuri Herrera, Emiliano Monge. (1unit)
