Democracy and the Rule of Law in Latin America

This course provides students with a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by democracy and the rule of law in Latin America. It explores the transition to democratic systems during the third democratic wave and the shades of democratic systems currently in place in the region in light of modern ideologies and within the context of political and economic integration initiatives. The course examines current issues such as the peace process in Colombia and the descent of democracy in Venezuela. Through the study of materials with complex lexical and syntactic aspects, students gain deeper insight into current debates about the myths and challenges faced by the region in consolidating democratic systems in the twenty-first century.
