The Evolution of Short Story and Its Theory in Latin America

Three-week course, first session

This course will analyze with special attention short forms of narrative (short story as genre in its current forms) and its evolution in Latin America, with special emphasis on the “theory” behind the creation of many of its authors. From Horacio Quiroga and his “La gallina degollada” and his “Decálogo del perfecto cuentista” to Ricardo Piglia and his “Tesis sobre el cuento”, but also reading Juan Rulfo, Julio Cortázar, Julio Ramón Riibeyro, Inés Arredondo, among many others.
