Energy, Economics & Society

This course introduces interdisciplinary tools for energy analysis and understanding within the context of social, environmental, and economic constructs. We will explore many aspects of energy, including: energy's role in development; sources and methods of using energy; energy externalities; life-cycle and cost benefit analyses of energy; energy efficiency; gender and socioeconomic energy issues; the water and energy nexus; domestic and international energy policy; the future of energy; and energy security and geo-politics. Coursework will include lectures, readings, discussions, and problem sets. The goal of this course is to provide an overview of how energy impacts our lives and the environment and to equip you with basic tools for analyzing energy issues and lay the groundwork for you to pursue more advanced analysis.
