Contemporary Hispanic Caribbean Literature

This course offers an introduction to literary works by some of the major authors of the last fifty years in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, exploring their similarities and differences, and encompassing texts in both poetry and prose by authors such as: Cuba: Nicolás Guillén, Alejo Carpentier, Guillermo Cabrera Infante, José Lezama Lima, Virgilio Piñera, Antonio José Ponte, Zoé Valdés, and Ena Lucía Portela; Dominican Republic: Juan Bosch, Pedro Mir, José Alcántara Almánzar, Aurora Arias, Rita Indiana Hernández; Puerto Rico: Luis Palés Matos, Julia de Burgos, René Marqués, Luis Rafael Sánchez, Ana Lydia Vega, Mayra Santos-Febres, Francisco Font Acevedo, Luis Negrón.
