Petrarch: Poet & Intellectual

Petrarch: Poet & Intellectual - THEEE WEEKS ONLY
NOTE: This course is 3 weeks (July 29 to August 6) and MUST be taken with one of the other two 3-week courses (July 8 to 26)
Petrarch: Poet and Intellectual “to people who perhaps await him from beyond”
Petrarch is the quintessential poet of love, as Petrarchism confirmed for at least three centuries throughout Western Europe, including the New World, which he envisioned by addressing “people who perhaps await him from beyond”! But Petrarch is also the first modern intellectual who perceives the value of artistic and cultural activity as a profession.
Through the reading of some poems from the Canzoniere and selected passages from other Petrarchan works, the aim is to illustrate his poetic-intellectual journey with direct references to contiguous expressive codes such as music and visual arts
