Readings in Japanese History

Readings in Japanese History: Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima
America's experience in World War II began and ended with Japan, and this course emphasizes the events that marked the opening and closing of active hostilities between the two Pacific powers. Both Pearl Harbor and the dropping of the atomic bombs have generated enormous controversy, both at the time and in retrospect. Students will read and discuss a wide selection of materials that examine these events and their contexts from both Japanese and American perspectives. 3 hrs. sem.
