Methods and Resources for Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language

This course focuses on the study of the methods and approaches in second languages teaching and learning, particularly focused on Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL). We will review teaching strategies for foreign languages learning as well analyze and design resources for teaching and learning SFL.
Students enrolled in this course should be able to know and recognize the methodological alternatives for the teaching of Spanish as a second language or as a foreign language, as well as establishing criteria for the organization and selection of a methodology according to the latest trends in foreign languages teaching and learning. These goals should be achieved with the acquisition of competences and skills like:
Knowledge of a teaching method basis
Knowledge of the different methods that have been used throughout the history of foreign languages teaching, with attention specific to the teaching of Spanish
Knowledge of current methodological proposals, taking as a basis the European Reference Framework for Teaching, Learning and Assessment of Languages
Critical analysis of resources for the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. (1 unit).

Required Text: Handbook of texts selection and materials provided by the teacher.
