Information Warfare in Russia

Information Warfare in Post-Soviet Russia: History, Strategy, and Tactics
Since 2000, the information environment of post-Soviet Russia has (d)evolved in a predictable fashion. In this course, students take a deep dive into the eras of post-Soviet Russia’s media history, familiarize themselves with the meta-narrative taxonomy currently governing Russia’s information environment, learn of the importance of intertextuality when analyzing the information environment, and begin to develop an intuitive understanding of how the Kremlin has operated. Students will participate in role-playing exercises and games, including a longform capstone module, to test their grasp of the covered material. Students will also conduct written and verbal analysis of information activity to diagnose tactics and strategy, divine intent, and evaluate effectiveness. Counts as a course in culture and civilization.
