The course Art, Culture and Society in Paris focuses on the highlights of the artistic, cultural and urban life of the capital in the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries through a presentation of the different artistic and architectural currents and the great cultural institutions that shaped its landscape (Louvre Museum, National Museum of Modern Art, Orsay Museum) or that led artists to new inspirations (Museum of French Monuments, Museum of the Glories of France, Trocadero Museum). Each session is organized around a specific period of art history through which the singularity of Parisian artistic life emerges, its emblematic places and its great figures. The focuses on the great urbanistic mutations resulting from the policies of embellishment in the 17th and 18th centuries, the Gothic revival and haussmannization in the 19th century, the Universal Exhibitions of the Belle Époque and the policy of the Great Mitterrandian works in the 20th century allow us to witness their impact on the way of living, thinking and representing the city. The point of view chosen thus intends to promote the discovery and understanding of the identity of the city and the imagination of Paris through time.
