Global Health Promotion in Public Administration and Policy

Health is central to the Sustainable Development Agenda and is a priority of most development partners, such as UNICEF, USAID, and the Gates Foundation. COVID-19 has underscored the urgency for strong global health policies and programs informed by science. The objective of this course is to introduce to the critical issues in global health promotion and develop your skills so that you can be a better social and human development professional.

You will learn key concepts in global health such as infectious and chronic disease, risk and protective factors, social determinants of health, disease prevention and health promotion, and health equity and disparities. We will cover a range of health topics that, in addition to COVID-19, include HIV; malaria; violence prevention; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; and environmental health.

You will also be introduced to the many fields of work in public health, such as behavior change communication, gender advocacy, health education, supply chain management, and epidemiology. In this way, you can make more informed choices about the direction of your own career.
