InsideChina:Trade,Growth&Power

This course will examine China’s trade policies, domestically and internationally, as well as the country’s ambitions and the potential impacts they will have. Unlike many courses that teach from a US point of view, this class will lean heavily on experts/guest speakers inside China on various aspects of China’s trade and economic development for an insider’s view of China. We will look at SEZs and their role in China’s development, FTZs and customs, WTO accession and domestic implications, 5-Year plans and their role in the economy, SOEs and CCP economic intervention, contested issues about China’s trade policies and its role in the world in not only trade, but also the ramifications that leadership has in the existing international structure and international organizations, geopolitical power, and international spread of its values.
